Roleplaying Section Preview!

Hey everyone,

As the new website features have been a little longer coming than planned, I thought I'd give you a preview of what's to come. I tried to do this the other night, but there were too many half-implemented bits at the time. It's looking a bit more polished after today.

Above is the new roleplay section, which can be used for both canon and non-canon games. It'll be up to the GM if they want to run the game in the forums or RP section. Forum games can be kept light and simple, while games in the roleplaying section are more organized but require some additional effort.

This is the homepage for a roleplaying game. I'm currently trying to decide in my head between having the chapters/scenes listed forward or reverse. Reverse is a bit more convenient as it puts the active content at the top, and is consistent with the behavior of the forum topic listings.

This is a sample character sheet in the Roleplay section. (Users can have multiple characters per game if the GM approves, and users can post in RP scenes as their characters - rather than their site login.) In hindsight I have have overdone this part a bit. I designed it to allow Game Masters to create and fully customize their own stats and character sheet layouts for each game. Hopefully the design ambitions won't bog down the server. (I'm just not happy designing anything unless I can over-engineer at least part of it. )

And for your pleasure and my pain - I added a forum code that generates dice rolls. Positioning and photographing the dice, enhancing, and cutting out all those individual images was... a lesson in patience.

Those of you that are observant might notice the menu has been shuffled around, and includes some new options, as well. There's quite a bit included in this update - and still some work to do, hopefully I'll be ready to roll it out soon.

I spent a few more days working on it recently, but I'm still thin on time right now. I only have one more 'page' to implement for an 'alpha' release of the roleplay section - but it'll still take a couple more days of working on it.

(Running an official RP would require a lot of time as well, so I'm in a bit less of a hurry until I have the free time to dedicate myself to storytelling as well. That's the part that gets me excited about the RP section most of all, though.)

It'll be an open beta - so when I release it, everyone will be able to test it out.

In fact, I think I'll spend some time working on it today. :) I'll just disable the Mail and Friends links for now.. those can be a separate project, and see how close I can get to something I can release.

Cool, after today I'm just one feature short of having enough of it in place it could be used for non-canon RP as a 'beta'. I'll need to spend one more day on that last feature, as well as some testing and polish - and then I should be able to roll out a 'beta'.

On account of rolling out the beta, the website will likely go down for an hour sometime today.
