Antilia textures

Teriha

As more and more nice looks at the character models in Antilia are presented, there is something that keeps bugging me about them.

Their eyes look kinda flat and lifeless. They could use just a little more detail to give the characters some life? (Shadow/light).
Especially the Vulan's is pretty much just a yellow circle with a dot.

Otherwise, keep up the good work :)

Agreed, everything else looks good, but the eyes are weird, to me they look to small for the heads.

Alex, who is doing the texturing, made the same observation to me last week. The plan is to work on the eyes a bit more on the next character and see if we can find a better technique - and then if we do we'll go back and touch-up the existing characters.

Yeah the only thing that really bothers me about the the characters so far is the faces. The only things I would really change is the flatness of the face, bringing out the eyebrows and the cheeks, and taking back the jaw bone. Though that is just my opinion.

Though for the eyes, I would suggest making them their own spheres that are then placed inside of the head. It seems most games are using this technique now, and for good reason, it is a good look and with work it could fit with any art style.

I've said this many times... Kind of... I mentioned that the eyes and the ears need a bit of work...

Good to hear. Yeah, I guess there is always room for improvement - and I'm guessing those could even come over time as well as the game develops - just that the eyes were what was bothering me most at the moment :P

Will be great to finally see all playable characters though, and to have something to enter the game with.

Foxen thinks the ears could be worked on. This is trivial compared to mapping (which is great).

Edit: This is only Foxen's opinion.

The entire head seems a bit awkward to me. It just looks...lifeless, i guess you can say.

The game is still in pre-alpha. Nothing is going to be perfect at this stage. But, honestly, the quality of the progress and work done to this point has been fantastic. Antilia is quite impressive thus far. Further tweaking will come after an alpha release when players can get a better idea of what needs improvement. Critique and alterations are all part of the process.

Alpha testing has always been a bit magical to me. I've always been a bit of a sentimental nerd when it comes to games. Players and developers working in unison to create a world of fantasy. A world of mystical places and powerful stories... All of a sudden I really want to play Ultima 5 again.
