I first heard about it from MrPhaux, ten days ago, in a Second Life IM. I registered in a matter of minutes, and am looking forward to the weekend when I can actually get a taste of what's to come.

i am [originally] greywolfe. i've never been able to remember my password for my account or i'd be using that ;)
mid-2006.
i'd been watching the [slow] development of earth eternal, and was hoping i'd get to play that at some point. i'd been looking for games like it for a long, long time. then rightbraingames sort of went a bit dark - but not before i snagged [and played with] toi.
i sent jeff a message right after he announced that he was going to work on other things wishing him well and kind of fell off the planet for a bit. found this forum in 2007, posted for a little, but then went awol again, since earth eternal looked like it was shaping up to have an actual alpha.
got into that game's alpha, went through the original sparkplay beta, was quite devastated when it shut down the first time.
when it shut down the second time, i'd barely played it. didn't like the new changes and was /very/ anti the need for a facebook login.
after that, i'd had hopes of inherit the earth ii coming along, but that's been sort of in hiatus, as well. i check in with antilia every now and then, just to see how the project's doing.
i'm very grateful to jeff and his volunteer staff for the work they've put in and the wonderful game it looks like they're building.

Welcome back, lostwolfe.
There is an Inherit the Earth 2 Kickstarter going on right now, sadly things don't look very good. The kickstarter pitch is sparse on details, consisting of little more than a basic description and a few concept art images. When I first found it I was planning a thread for it here - but there just wasn't enough information being presented and my interest faded. (I personally don't back projects on name alone - I need to see some indicators that the people making it are capable, hard-working, and have exciting ideas for the project. The kickstarter should sell me on the idea and the people making it!) Maybe they'll get it together before the end, or launch another kickstarter sometime with more information. Still, if you're a fan of ITE, you'll probably want to take a look and decide for yourself.

[massive incoming derail about kickstarter]
i haven't donated to a kickstarter yet, because while i feel that the model is interesting, i also feel it is somewhat flawed. while in the earth eternal beta, i never gave them money, because it was a beta: they were promising me a game that may or may not come out that i may or may not like. kickstarter feels somewhat like the same thing again, but slightly different.
in 2004, i had a livejournal, and one of the inherent problems with some folks who were journalling was that they'd often just stop, mid-journal and ask you to put money into their paypal so that they could buy an xbox, or something. kickstarter sort of feels the same to me.
my feeling is: if you're making something of this nature, either you have the resources, or you don't. if you don't have the resources, you should be working with what you have to achieve what goals you can, you shouldn't go asking random strangers for money.
apart from all that, i live in a place that makes it absurdly difficult to give money to things like kickstarter without having a credit card, and i don't believe in credit cards. mismanaged, they're just a very bad way to get yourself into a world of trouble so that the bank can claim your soul.
long story short: while i'm interested in their kickstarter, no matter how good it is, i probably would not have given them money until they got to a point where they got an actual product out the door. not just the promise of one.
