Hey everyone - its time to start planning the next alpha test!
Status: Testing is complete for today, and the server is no longer online.
What's new in Antilia 5.5.2b
- Video Settings Window Added - From the Video Settings window, you can switch between windowed and fullscreen modes, as well as select the fullscreen resolution.
- Mesh LOD - Some objects will now display in a lower resolution in the distance. (Although nearly there - the option of lower resolution character meshes will not be included in this release.)
- Medium Quality Shaders - On the video settings window, you can now select your shader quality, and most shaders are now available in medium quality (possibly slightly faster on slower GPUs, though most systems are probably still CPU-bound.)
- Non-reflective/refractive Ocean - You can now disable ocean reflections, which may provide a small performance boost on lower-end GPUs.
- Minor: The window size/position is now remembered across sessions.
- Minor: Some additional small performance improvements have been made - but are unlikely to drastically affect fps.
- Minor: Noticed a small bug in the wind system preventing 'gusts'. There is now a a bit more variation in the wind.
Known Issues
As this version was being worked on right up to release, several of the features listed above have not been heavily tested, and are likely to contain additional bugs which could not be caught before the release.
- After selecting a shader quality in the new Video Settings window, you will need to manually restart Antilia for the changes to take effect.
- The "low" shader quality is not fully available yet. Selecting it will result in players and some objects not appearing.
- The teleporters and fish do not appear in "medium" quality mode due to a glitch.
- Some players report that switching between fullscreen and windowed modes crashes the game sometimes.
- Using alt-tab or alt-esc while in full-screen mode has not been tested, and may crash the game.
If this is your first time testing...
Antilia's alpha tests are open to everyone - all you need is a forum account. Once you have created an account and logged in, you will see a large 'play' button in the main header menu at the top of the page while the test is in progress. Click on it to review the EULA, system requirements, and download the game client. (If you do not see the large 'play' link in the main menu, it is likely the test hasn't started yet.)
Hope to see you all there tomorrow!

If your framerate was low in the last test, it is highly unlikely that the changes Jeff has specified will result in much, if any, improvement. There's still time for him to add in graphical optimizations, but I rather doubt that he will, given the massive amount of things that there are to be done. At any rate, I'm not counting on any noticeable client-side performance boosts in the near future.
