Alpha Test - Saturday & Sunday, February 18th & 19th!

Jeff Leigh
Lead Developer

It's nearly the weekend - and that means another alpha test. We'll be running both Saturday and Sunday again, and in this test we've added something shiny: pearls.

Status: Testing is complete, and the server has been shut down.

Pearls will be our temporary form of currency (instead of tithms) on the Isle of Kasau while we work to build and stabilize the game's economic systems.

What's New in Antilia 5.5.4

((This list will continue to expanded through the day as features are added and confirmed for this weekend.))
  • Player Currency: Residents of the isle have designated pearls as a form of local currency, to ease trade and reward work efforts.
  • NPC Shops Some NPCs can now be traded with.
  • New Tech: Inventory items can now have custom stats. This will allow for cooking and crafting with customization soon, as well as gear quality and condition.
  • Minor: Improved terrain splatting to appear less repetitive. (Note: The same algorithm has also been added to generate distant terrain textures, though I don't know if I'll have time to regenerate all distant terrain textures in this release, so some texture repeating may still be visible in the distance.)
  • Minor: Adjusted fishing ratios again to improve slightly at higher levels.

Known Issues

  • New: It's come to our attention with this test that if there are a lot of people in an area like the base camp, it can make it difficult for new players to log in. New players will just get a black screen. We've added this to our high-priority to-do list.
  • Because the swimming pattern of fish was significantly changed in recent versions, there are many places in the world where fish may not be properly positioned in the water - causing them to swim underground or in the air slightly. Some areas were touched up - such as the lakeside near camp and Maulei beach, but most areas have not been fixed yet.
  • Teleporting can occasionally crash the game.
  • Clutter causes memory fragmentation, and will eventually cause the game to crash.
  • The chat window does not scroll properly.
  • GUI windows sometimes do not appear properly until clicked on.
  • Some NPCs - mostly Jidou - can get 'stuck' in the scene while crossing pages.
  • Teleporters and Markers that have been clicked don't always light up properly, although they are still 'known'.
  • The window settings don't specifically recall if you were running the window maximized or not.
  • Equipping both a fishing pole and an axe will result in only the last item equipped being displayed. Un-equipping either will remove the visibly equipped item, resulting in invisible equipment.

If this is your first time testing...

Antilia's alpha tests are open to everyone - all you need is a forum account. Once you have created an account and logged in, you will see a large 'play' button in the main header menu at the top of the page while the test is in progress. Click on it to review the EULA, system requirements, and download the game client. (If you do not see the large 'play' link in the main menu, it is likely the test hasn't started yet.)

Hope to see you all there!

Heh, as always, Jeff, I can't wait for tomorrow. Shiny things are always a good addition to the game, in my humble opinion.

Also...is that a purple fish in that shop window?

Yeah, a rare salt-water fish. Haven't been able to catch it myself in a while - I'll check that it's settings are correct.

Ah, the monetary system makes its debut (or at least a basic implementation of the same so far) and with shiny pearls too! Will be interesting to see how the Antilian economy starts to shape up out of this; especially once the tithms are added later on. Either way this should be an interesting weekend. Can't wait.

Ah, so that's a rare salt-water fish is it? Was wondering on that fish myself. Good to know.

Interesting...I suppose I shall have to go try to catch it, too.

Yeah - I just tested it for a while, and it can be caught.. it's just one picky fish (it requires a specific bait, with a specific skill, at a specific time).

I did change the distributions to give out more rare fish when you level a bit.

Hey everyone - the server is up.

A few notes regarding the shop:
  • The "value" you see when you hover over items is the 'base price'. The seller will mark things up or down from there.
  • The value is for the entire stack, not just a single item in it.
  • Unfortunately, there is nowhere in the shop right now that lists the actual buy or selling prices - this will come a bit later after we've tested this.
  • After testing it a bit this morning, it would be nice if items that you have up for sale would be dimmed-out in your inventory until the transaction is completed/canceled.
  • There are 'invisible fractions' in some transactions - items can internally be represented by a fraction, while the player only sees whole numbers. There are a few little oddities resulting from this that need to be sorted out.
