Ranged Combat

Drakowolf

I was kind of wondering since Jeff says hes working on the combat system if he mite answer a few questions.

my first question is this. Will there be ranged weapons involved in the combat?

one thing history in the real world has proven is that the earliest form of hunting involved thrown spears, which evolved into the use of the bow and arrow. So I'm wondering if the Antilians mite be able to craft and use bows, you've already said spears are going to be in but primarily as melee only, but what about a bow and arrow?

We're actually in the process of designing this sort of thing right now - but still, I'm sure we'll have ranged weapons. ;)

Hopefully, this means more crafting options?

you could expand woodworking to include fletching, bow, and spear making possibly...
unless there will be a specific weapon making skill?
but, i'd like to see them as an extension of their crafting origins; since I view them as woodcraft weapons.

Well... not all parts of making those three are exactly woodcrafting... Depending on how involved the process is made, having to make stone or metal spear heads and arrowheads might be a step, which wouldn't fall under woodcrafting. It might be better if weapon-making skills were broken down into weapon families (bows, polearms, swords, etc), so that you could account for having a mix of materials in the manufacturing process. Or have certain components, like bowstrings, be resources to buy. It really depends on how the developers want to break down the crafting process.

It would be neat to see some sort of physics applied to the shot arrows, ex; Asherons Call
